After all of the work is complete to create an artificial green that rolls true and holds a wedge shot, a small force of nature comes along. They call them chipmunks, sometimes red squirrels but at LCGC they're called tunneling rodent greens killers. Some time last summer a large family of chipmunks decided to call the grounds around LCGC home.
This wasn't a problem until one of the rodent clan decided to create a subterranean 3 bedroom rancher under the corner of the first green. LCGC was open one full year before the wildlife impacted playability. The damage has yet to be repaired and back pin placement on the first green remains closed.
One of the beauties of golf is that it is played outdoors, subject to the whims of mother nature, as much so as any other sport. LCGC is busy pursuing humane methods for protecting the greens and tees from the bleedin' chipmunks.
